A woman died of a snake bite in a shed nearby her house at Lainchaur in Bindrasaini Municipality-6 of Chamunda, Dailekh district on Thursday.
The woman identified as Shanta Shahi was living in Chaugoth, a small hut separate for women to stay during their menstruation period, as part of age-old tradition.
She was bitten by a snake at around 10 pm yesterday while she was asleep. It has been learnt that she died during the course of treatment.
According to Kamala Shahi, a paramedic at Jammukadh Health Post, Shahi died due to lack of timely medical intervention as the locals tried to seek treatment from a shaman instead to taking to the hospital.
She said it was too late by the time Shanta was brought to the hospital.
There are still 376 Chaugoths in Dailekh district, said a data provided by district coordination committee.
