‘Unknown disease kills two persons’

- Post Report, DAMAK

Two persons have died and seven others have been taken ill because of an unknown disease at a Musahar settlement in Kankai Municipality-4, Jhapa over past one week.

Basanti Rishidev, 24, and Narayan Rishidev, 23, recently died of the disease with symptoms including fever, headache and vomiting. They died before they could receive medical attention.

Both Basanti and Narayan had reportedly counselled a local shaman after they got sick.

Rajendra Pokharel, the municipal mayor, said the sick villagers were taken to Mechi Zonal Hospital in Bhadrapur on Sunday after the news about spread of “mysterious illness” came out.

The sick villagers were discharged on Monday.

Doctors could not identify the disease stalking the settlement, said Pokharel, adding that the disease has caused panic among villagers.
