The country is conducting the parliament and provincial elections for the first time after the promulgation of new constitution. The first phase of federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections were held in 32 of 77 districts on November 26 while the second phase of elections is due for December 7 in the remaining 45 districts.
The upcoming second phase of elections is being conducted in the Tarai districts including the Capital Kathmandu.
The country’s southern Tarai best is gearing for elections with fervor as the elections will pave the way for forming provincial governments in seven states of Nepal that will decentralise the power from the center.
Candidates can be seen visiting door-to-door canvassing for the votes. Party’s banners, flags and advertisements can be seen in every nook and corners of the Tarai. Political parties are organising election rallies and corner assemblies across the Tarai region. With the election date less than a week away, Madhes is decked up as if it getting ready for some sort of festival.
