Incessant rainfall at Khanigaun in Gorkha district has put a nearby settlement at high risk of landslide.
At least 72 houses at Lapu in Khanigaun of Dharche Rural Municipality are under risk of landslide after large cracks developed through the settlement. Locals said people living in the community are living in fear and spent their night at cowsheds while other moving to relatives' houses for safety.
One local Sachin Gurung said landslide at Jungang Danda has put the settlement at high risk. “The local Tongsyong River used to erode the banks but a huge landslide on Saturday night and large cracks have further compounded the fears,” Gurung said.
Ward Chairman Suryaman Gurung said they have made initiatives to move affected families to safer grounds.
