Two Muslim groups clashed at Loharpatti Municipality in Mahottari district on Wednesday.
Police said around a dozen people were injured when the two groups clashed over which Imam was going to read the Namaz during the Eid festival.
District Police Office Mahottari DSP Khagendra Bahadur Khadka said police had to fire two rounds of tear gas shells to take the situation under control. Police has cordoned off the mosque and barred entry into it.
Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal said Muslim groups have clashed in the past over the same issue during Eid festival. “We had brought people from both groups and reached an agreement this year. But they have clashed at around 8 am. We are trying to solve this issue,” CDO Dhakal said.
Those injured during the clash have been taken to Janakpur Zonal Hospital for treatment.
Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Adha festival on Wednesday.
