Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has said the rape and murder of a teenage girl in Kanchanpur was taken lightly by the local administration.
Speaking at the federal parliament meeting on Monday following a field study of the incident in the district, NC leader and lawmaker Dilendra Badu said the police weakened the case by delaying investigation and failed to understand the gravity of the situation.
The victim’s family and local people had made complaints of attempting to cover up the case. Our visit has also shown the same, Badu said before the parliament.
NC had deployed Badu and another leader Bir Bahadur Balayer for a field study of the rape and murder of 13-year-old Niramala Pant in the district. After the visit, the duo met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and apprised him about the reality of the event.
Badu also drew the attention of the government to become responsible and prevent future demonstrations and any untoward incidents from happening.
