The opposition Nepali Congress has accused the Kanchanpur local administration of not taking the rape and murder of a teenage girl in the district seriously.
Speaking at the federal parliament on Monday following a field study of the incident, NC leader and lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu said the police had weakened the case by delaying the investigation and not according it due priority.
The victim’s family and locals had complained of attempts to cover up the case. Our visit has also shown the same, Badu told Parliament.
The NC had deployed Badu and another leader Bir Bahadur Balayer for a field study of the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta last month. The duo met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and apprised him about the incident.
Badu also asked the government to handle such cases “responsibly”.
