A half-naked body of a woman was found on the bank of Danab River at Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-7 in Rupandehi district on Monday.
Locals, who had gone to graze the cattle, came across the body this morning and informed the police.
A joint team of Area Police Office, Chapiya and District Police Office reached the incident site shortly after they got the information.
It has been learnt that there were red and blue marks around her neck. Police have recovered slippers of a man and a woman near the body.
The body has been brought to the Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa for postmortem. The identity of the woman, who appears to be in her mid-20s, is yet to be established.
Locals claimed that she was murdered after rape. Police said that they are looking into the case.
