Keshar Jung Rayamajhi passes away

Former Chairman of the Raj Parishad Standing Committee Keshar Jung Rayamajhi passed away on Monday evening.

Rayamajhi, 93, died of heart attack at 5:45 pm, his son Raju Jung Rayamajhi told eKantipur over phone.

Rayamajhi had been discharged from Charkhal-based Himal Hospital on Friday after he showed significant improvement. He was admitted at the hospital for chest problems.

Though he was doing fine until this morning, he died suddenly.

He was a leading figure in the communist movement in the country, but later turned into a royalist.

Rayamajhi was included in the interim government after the 1990 Jana Andolan as Minister of Education.

He became the chairman of the Royal Privy Council. During his period as the chairman of the council, Rayamajhi oversaw the dramatic change in the royal house that followed the royal massacre and the coronation of then king Gyanendra Shah.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
