Colleagues urge Dr KC to withdraw hunger strike
Colleagues of agitating Dr Govinda KC from TU Teaching Hospital have requested him to immediately withdraw the hunger strike he has been staging in the hospital premises.Ekantipur Report
His colleagues made such request to Dr KC reasoning that the fast-unto-death strike he was staging since the last three days was hindering treatment of the patients.
Speaking at an interaction organised by the Reporters' Club in the Capital on Tuesday, Dr KC's colleagues said protesting a minor issue of appointment of the dean in the hospital was quite unreasonable. It was hampering treatment of thousands of patients every day, they added.
Newly appointed dean Dr Sashi Sharma said he was taking initiatives to persuade Dr KC to break the strike as a good friend rather than as the dean.
He argued that the TUTH was not closed even during the people's movement but now its services were badly affected over the trifle issue of dean appointment.
Similarly, Dr Sundar Mani Dixit said not only health sector but also others had negative influence of politics in the country. But, staging strike in the name of posing demands and hindering hospital service was not suitable, he added.
Dr Ratneshwor Shrestha said hospital must not be made a place for protests. The recurrent politically motivated hunger strike in Teaching Hospital needs to end, he added.
