US Embassy celebrating Black History Month
The US Embassy is to support another edition of music and outreach events to celebrate Black History Month. The embassy is partnering with House of Music, a local music venue, to coordinate a month-long event series honouring the contributions of African Americans in the arts.
The February events include weekly Friday concerts, featuring local Nepali musical tributes to blues, jazz, funk, soul, and Motown, as well as school music education workshops.
Concerts include a high-energy fusion of American musical influences spiced with local traditional flavour, the US Embassy said in a statement.
Black History Month celebrates the heritage of African Americans and their contributions to the American
society.
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has chosen “Civil Rights in America” as the 2014 BHM theme to honour the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
BHM emphasises the importance of diversity and pluralism, which is a model for social justice around the world.
