Krishna Mohan Memorial Badminton from Feb 17
The 10th Krishna Mohan Memorial Nationwide Open Badminton Tournament has been scheduled here for February 17-20.Organisers of the annual event, the Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) however have decided to hold a separate lawn tennis tournament breaking away from the tradition of organising the two games simultaneously. The lawn tennis tournament will now takes place a fortnight later, informed the APF AIG Durja Kumar Rai at a press meet on Wednesday.
As usual, the badminton tournament features eight events: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, Under-17 singles (boys’ and girls’), veterans’ doubles, mixed doubles and Masters doubles. The men’s singles winner will walk away with Rs 50,000 and the runner-up will take home Rs 25,000. The losing semi-finalists are also assured of Rs 10,000 along with Rs 5,000 each for the losing quarter-finalists.
The top two players in women’s singles event will earn Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 while the losing semi-finals will be handed over Rs 10,000 each. Cash prizes are also on offer for the top four players/team in the men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and Under-17 boys’ and girls’ categories.
General Secretary of the Nepal Badminton Association Ramji Bahadur Shrestha predicted about 400 participants.
