The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) said in a statement on Friday the fund will be spent through the Pokhara-based Gurkha Welfare Scheme in the projects that would help improve access to sanitation and drinking water. During his recent trip to Nepal, UK Minister of State for International Development Alan Duncan had announced the aid to be used for constructing 400 water supply systems and around 10,000 latrines.
“We are getting clean water and sanitation to the hilltop Nepali communities from which we have recruited soldiers,” Duncan had said.
