MPs urged to focus on human responsibilities
Rights defenders urged lawmakers to incorporate human responsibilities while drafting the new constitution as the advocacy of rights alone was not enoughIn an interaction organised by Human Rights and Responsibilities Group, Rahat Nepal, with some Constituent Assembly members in the Capital on Saturday, speakers said the issue of human responsibilities was neglected by most as their focus primarily rested on fulfilling their rights only.
Speaking at the progra-mme titled ‘Human Responsibilities—Responsible, Plural and United World: Nepal Charter,’ Badri Pokhrel, joint-secretary at the Health Ministry and member of the organisation, drew the attention of lawmakers to the situation of human rights and responsibilities.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC said it was high time the society and citizens thought about human responsibilities and not just rights.
Rahat Nepal President Madhavi Singh Shah urged the lawmakers to raise the issue in parliament and enshrine it in the law. People have been vocal of their demands for rights, of late.
