I was in class 8 and she was in 6. Falgun 2...I still remember the day. Valentine’s Day 2063, and the snowfall was perfect. I was busy with the snow when suddenly a pair of glittering eyes caught me from the junior class corridor. Though we were already in love, I fell for her again. This will be the tenth Valentine’s Day with you Nanu.

My Angel,
A wish from a shooting star,
twinkling in beauty.
A cry from a babbling voice
whispered by insanity.
A warm hug to calm your fears, holding you through a thousand miles.
A kiss to wipe all your tears, sparking your cute smile.
A true heart to love you,
forever, till death do us apart.
A holy soul who loves you,
everlasting till eternity,
for all the moments that you
treasure,
I’ll spread my wings to take you high.
Not now and then, this boy will wait his whole life, below
the same sky...
Love Xuchhi, my Valentine.
Your GoodDay (SuDin)

To my dearest Lhadon,
It was the month of February, around my 18th birthday. That was when I realised I was in love with you. It was only after this that I started enjoying love stories like The Titanic, The Notebook and Wuthering Heights, to name a few. I started listening to Bruno Mars tracks and penning down my own poetry. I found solace. I never thought that being bitten by the love bug would change anything about my existence, but it has definitely awoken some strange emotions in me. I really care and adore you a great deal. Though we may have a couple of arguments and fights with each other, I will by no means stop loving you. In the years to come by, I vow to fiercely love you and be there for you no matter how hard things get.
Yours,
—Haudey Dawa Tenzing
This was during the early 1990s, when I was in school. My class teacher was well known for being a fair, but hard, grader. One day I received a B-minus on her subject. In hopes of getting better grades and in the true spirit of the Valentine season, I sent her a heart-shaped box of chocolates with the inscription “BE-MINE”. The very next day, I received a return note from the teacher, which read: “Thank you, but it’s still BE MINE-US”.

My husband, a CAP-II Student (CA Study, Nepal Board), studies almost 12-14 hours every day. In spite of his hectic schedule, he took the time out to order me goodies for Valentine’s Day. While trying hard to be extra romantic and thinking deeply on it (with many hours of studies still left for the day), he wrote a note: “Roses are red, violets are blue; if I weren’t thinking of you, I’d probably be through”.

A butterfly was in love with a white rose. One day, the butterfly proposed to the rose. The white rose told him that when she turns red, that’s the only time she’ll love him. The butterfly then flew, cut his body and spread his blood on the rose. The rose turned red and fell in love with the butterfly, but the butterfly was no longer alive. Love sacrifices are sometimes useless, especially if that someone doesn’t know how to appreciate the love offered. They will come to realise important things when it’s already too late.

If I were to buy you a bunch of
roses, I would place a plastic one in
the middle and then say, “My love
for you will be the last one to die”.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

It took some time for
our things to align
Now this silver line
you put in this heart of mine
will always shine
like an old wine
from the sweetest of vine
this isn’t just a rhyme
but for love so divine
I”ll fight till the end of time
Love you, Nanu.

LATI...
The day I saw you, my story started.
When I saw your eyes I knew you were mine.
Forever and always,
I want to get lost in your eyes.
I started dreaming
about being your Vhoot.
Because I made you my Lati and my heart never lies.
I was just a friend to you last Valentine’s.
I wanted to express,
I wanted to open my heart
but the rose I gave you,
couldn’t make you mine.
I cared a lot, I really loved you from all my heart,
but still I failed to be your Vhoot.
Who knows,
something better was still to come.
Today I want to hold your hand
and just fly and fly.
Deeper than the ocean,
higher than the sky,
let the whole world know that
you are mine,
On this Valentine’s Dauy,
I want to propose to you again,
“Will you be my Valentine?”
You are my Lati and I am your Vhoot,
Your shadow, I am your soul,
I remember those moments when my heart touches yours.
The day you hugged me,
I still remember that day.
I came running to you just to say,
“HAPPY VALENTINE DAY”
Your Vhoot...???
Here’s to you and yours
B Khadka
We all want to make loved ones feel special on Valentine’s Day. So treating that special someone to a fabulous surprise is a great to show affection. A surprise barbeque may be just the solution for you!
What better way to spend time with your loved one than over barbeque and a bottle of beer? Just like your partner, beer and barbeque have been great partners
for a long time. There is just something about scorching meat on the patio that cries out for beer.
Valentine’s Day is one day of the year when everyone talks about love. When
paying homage to love, we should not forget about proper pairings in terms of food and drink. While wine certainly has its followers, it’s hard to imagine a flavour more complementary to barbecue—the sweetness of sauce, the juicy meaty
burgers and the
burnt hot dogs, than the maltiness of
great beer.
The complementary effect
Beer can support and
complement the
enjoyment of food, enhancing flavour and aroma by accentuating certain components and toning down others. In many cases the alcohol in beer can actually help boost aroma.
The contrasting effect
The contrasting effect lies in beer’s ability to counterbalance to the food, increasing the enjoyment of both. An example of this could be a beer with a high ‘burnt’ content, a caramelised malt that provides a harmonious counterbalance to sweet desserts.
The cleansing effect
Beer contains carbonic acid, bitterness and alcohol, which together have a cleansing effect on the mouth and throat. This is particularly relevant in terms of rich food, where the beer can help clear the senses,
thereby extending the
taste experience.
