Transformer procurement scam: CIAA claims rampant irregularities
CIAA has claimed that there have been rampant irregularities from the procurement till the storage of the transformers purchased by Nepal Electricity Authority.Ekantipur Report
The ant-graft body has said that there are evidences to substantiate involvement of various officials during different stages of transformer procurement from China's Sichuan Dongfang Transformer Co. Ltd. NEA had procured as many as 575 transformers from the Chinese company.
The Commission has already filed charge sheets against then NEA Executive Director Jibendra Jha and Managing Director trio of Rameshwor Yadav, Yugal Kishor Saha and Chiranjivi Sharma Poudel, among other NEA officials, at the Special Court for their alleged involvement in the transformer procurement scam.
Among other officials who have been charge sheeted by the CIAA are former Manager Kailash Prasad Atal, former deputy Directors Harish Bahadur Pal and Dilli Raman Dahal, former Account Officer Suresh Kumar Katuwal, former deputy Account Officer Sushil Prasad Khanal, former acting Managing Director Asta Ratna Shakya, Centre Head Tripurari Prasad Singh, deputy Manager Surendra Prasad Paneru, former storekeeper head and engineer Narayan Prasad Chaudhary and former storekeeper Saroj Shrestha.
Citing Anti-Corruption Act, 2059, the Commission has set a fine of Rs 79.1million and an equal amount of compensation on the accused individuals for the loss NEA had to bear due to the irregularities.
