Pugilists Thapa, Gurung win NNIPA annual award
Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) honoured Nam Singh Thapa and Ram Prasad Gurung, the first two players to represent Nepal in the OlympicsThe two pugilists who had represented Nepal in the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 were rewarded with a cheque of Rs 25,000. Similarly, NNIPA felicitated 19 players from as many sports disciplines for their outstanding performances in 2013-14 with the NNIPA Sports Award. Captain of the national cricket team Paras Khadka, weightlifter Kamal Bahadur Adhikari, boxer Deepak Maharjan, swimmer Shreya Dhital, footballer Sandip Rai and Sunil Lama of Karate were felicitated at a special ceremony on Tuesday.
Yan Kumari Chaulagain of taekwondo, shuttlers Sara Devi Tamang, spiker Sanjay Aryal, Chahana Bamjon of wushu, Nabita Shrestha of table tennis, judoka Devaki Maya Shrestha, Jitendra Pariyar of lawn tennis, Mahadev Katuwal of canoeing, wrestler Satyendra Yadav, shooter Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana, Dipendra Airee of hockey, Chirre Sherpa of skiing and Ram Hari Khadka of equestrian were the players to be awarded for their outstanding performance.
Likewise, athlete Sanjay Pandit, who had taken the NNIPA on top of the Everest was also honoured on the occasion.
