‘Vishwo Twenty20 Cricket Ka Sarathi Haru’, a cricket book on the current Nepali national team, has been released here on Thursday.
Written by a Kantipur sports journalist Jagadishwor Pandey, the book incorporates details of 18 cricketers and coach who created history by guiding Nepal to historical achievement – the qualification to ICC Twenty20 World Cup.
The cricketers and Nepal’s Sri Lankan-born Canadian coach Pubudu Dassanayake jointly launched the book amidst a programme. The general book has been priced at Rs 499 and the especial edition at Rs 1,200. The especial edition includes signatures of the cricketers, informed the publishers, We Read.
Coach Pubudu Dassanayake said the Nepali cricket has reached a new level and now needs to move forward from there on. “Getting a book like the ones (Pandey has written) is really encouraging,” added the Nepal coach.
Skipper Paras Khadka said: “We take pride from what we achieved in cricket as we had realised our dreams (by qualifying for a World Cup). I also take this opportunity to thank Pandey and all those who made it possible to launch the cricket book.
Nepali cine stars Rajesh Hamal, Nisha Adhikari, banker Anil Shah, Managing Director of Prisma Advertising Ranjit Acharya and a couple of teenaged fans gave motivational remarks to the team on the occasion.
Pandey thanked the cricket team for the achievement without which he believed the thought of even coming up with the book was impossible. “Sports have a power to unite people and cricket has shown that during their qualifying campaign in Dubai,” added the author of the book.
National team skipper Khadka named the Toyota car winner
KATHMANDU: National cricket team skipper Paras Khadka is set to receive Toyota car from the Voith (Vaidya’s Organization of Industries and Trading Houses). Voith had, in November, announced the reward to one of the best Nepali cricketers provided the team earn qualification to the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.
Nepal managed qualify for World Cup and with several players in contention for the prize, a jury member comprising of Prisma Advertising MD Ranjit Acharya, Cricket Association of Nepal member Purna Lama and a Voith representative picked up Khadka for the honour. Acharya, on behalf of Voith President Suraj Vaidhya, announced the winner during the launching of the cricket book Sarathi of Vishwo Twenty20 Cricket.
Meanwhile, Prithu Baskota has been replaced by Amrit Bhattarai for the Twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh after the allrounder failed to recover from the knee injury. (PR)
