PADT bids farewell to sadhus
The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) on Saturday bade farewell to some 2,500 sadhus (ascetics) who had come for Shivaratri festival.Ekantipur Report
The sadhus, who had come to celebrate the festival, were offered foods, shawls, prasad and dakshina (religious offerings) at the Pashupatinath Temple premises.
The PADT provides dakshina ranging from Rs 501 to Rs 5,000 to each sadhu as fixed by the Guthi.
According to the PADT, some 5,000 sadhus visited the Pashupati Temple this year for Shivaratri festival observed by Hindus paying obeisance to Hindu lord Shiva.
This year Shivaratri festival was observed on 27th of March when an estimated one million people visited the holy Pashupatinath Temple.
Rewati Raman Adhikari, member secretary of the publicity committee, however, said some sadhus left Pashupatinath yesterday without attending the farewell programme.
The sadhus come to Pashupatinath from Janakpur, Chitwan, Birgunj, Nepalgunj, and the neighboring nation India.
