Kin of disappeared demand TRC
AFFDIS submitted a memorandum to Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer Basanta Raj Gautam demanding the government to make public the whereabouts of the people disappearedThe association President Ekraj Bhandari led team handed over a five point memorandum to the Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer (CDO) Basant Raj Gautam requesting him to forward their demands to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The demands include making public whereabouts of the disappeared; institutionalising the achievements made by the disappeared and the wounded during the conflict era; guaranteeing health, education and employment to the family members and children of the disappeared victims; punishing the culprits; and forming the TRC.
According to Bhandari, CDO Gautam assured them to send the demands to the PMO. “We have also received positive response from administrators from across the country,” he said.
He said the government should take the initiative to amend the laws and formulate regulations as required and form the TRC to address the concerns of the families of the disappeared.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has recorded over 1,300 people reported missing during a decade long insurgency.
