Ugyen takes three-shot lead
Dechen Ugyen of Bhutan carded one-under 71 to take a three-shot lead after the second round of the fourth CMS Nepal Open Amateur Golf ChampionshipUgyen moved atop the standings with a total card of one-under 143. Ankur Chadha of India and Sajib Ali of Bangladesh were tied for second at two-over 146. Both the golfers shot two-over 74 on Tuesday. First round joint leader Mohammad Nazim (76) of Bangladesh and Puwit Anusuebsi (71) of Thailand were tied on fourth at 147.
Ugyen shot two-under 34 on the front nine and one-over 37 on the back nine. The Bhutanese golfer sank birdies on the third, sixth, 10th and 12th holes against bogeys on the 14th. He also had a double bogey on the 15th.
Chadha shot two-under 34 on the first nine with birdies on the fourth, sixth and eighth holes against a bogey on the second. Chadha faltered on his way back finishing at four-over 40 to ruin his card. Ali carded two-over 38 on the front nine and even-par 36 on the back nine.
Ekkarat Leksuwan (73) of Thailand was sixth at 148, two ahead of India’s Simarjeet Singh (77). Tashi Ghale was best among the locals as he moved up to eighth at 151 after a round of four-over 76. Wangchen Dhondup (72) was next at 152 and Sunil KC (74) 10th at 153. Cut was applied at 34-over 178 with 36 golfers making it to the final round.
Overnight joint leader Bikash Bogati of Nepal played a disastrous 13-over 85 to finish tied for 13th with Bishnu Sharma (73) and Sanjeev CK (76) at 156. Nepal No 1 Dinesh Prajapati’s poor run continued as he shot five-over 77 to add to his first round card of 80.
Bangladeshi team of Mohammad Nazim and Sajib Ali won the team event title with the score of five-over 293. The duo, who had a total of one-under 143 on the first day, added six-over 150 on Tuesday to record two-stroke win over Thailand.
Ekkarat Leksuwan and Puwit Anusuebsai played even-par 144 for a total of 295. India’s Simarjeet Singh and Ankur Chadha finished third at 295.
