Nembang, originally from Panchthar district, started her singing career close to home—her birth place, Panchthar. She started out by lending her voice to the dramas that would be staged in her village, and then she worked on theatre productions as well. She officially released her first album much later, after she came to Kathmandu in the late nineties. Till date, Nembang has recorded around 300 Limbu songs and more than 150 adhunik numbers, alongside working on the soundtrack of seven Limbu films.   

She has also performed live in many venues both here and abroad. By 2011, Nembang had already performed in South Korea and Hong Kong, and she is regularly featured in shows around Illam, Taplejung, Terathum, Jhapa and Dharan. The busy singer, who is also the central chairperson of the Faktalung Sanskritik Manch, Lalitpur, still finds time to work on other projects, like research work related

to the Limbu community and heritage. Recently, Nembang even began working as a director for a short film,Kelang, which is based on her people’s Chyavrung Naach, which is usually performed during festivals and marriage ceremonies.

The music videos Nembang is working on—far for being about her—fall right in line with the kind of work she has been doing for a long time. “I believe this is a small contribution I’m making to help preserve our culture,” says Nembang. In the Limbu language, Pa means ‘father’ and Ma means ‘Mother’; thus the album’s name captures well Nembang’s attempts to pay homage to those who have come before her.
