A contractor has halted construction of the Bhurigaun-Murtiha section of a feeder postal road in the district citing lack of budget to pay workers and buy fuel for vehicles. The road was supposed to be completed within March 19. The contractor-India based company JVR-was awarded the contract to build the 35.5 kilometre section of the road with an estimated budget of Rs 410 million two years ago.
Earlier, labourers working for the company had also halted the work citing lack of timely disbursement of their salaries. The company is yet to pay around Rs 4 million to a district-based petrol pump. The petrol pump owner said he cannot provide additional fuel until the dues are cleared.
Locals said vehicular movement along the road will be affected if laying concrete foundation is not completed before monsoon.
AK Singh of the construction company said they have not received budget as they could not complete the work even within March, the last month of Indian fiscal year. He, however, claimed the ongoing project will be
completed soon.
