Two trafficked girls disapper from Nepali Embassy in New Delhi
The two Nepali girls rescued from a guest house and handed over to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi on Friday reportedly disappeared on Sunday morning.Devendra Bhattarai
Permanent residents of Ichowk in Sindhupalchok, the girls from Tamang community aged between 15 to 16 were rescued by local social organisations at Manju Katila in India.
Office bearers of Delhi-based Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Munch (ABNEM), Help Nepali Mission and the Pravasi Nepali Janakalyan Samiti, act upon the information provided by one of the girls' brother, Som Bahadur Tamang, and raided the guest house.
According to Som Bahadur, local residents Fulmaya Tamang and Kalu Lama trafficked the girls to New Delhi through Raxaul on March 15 and were preparing to sell them both to a brothel for Rs 400,000. Som Bahadur also reported the matter to Kathmandu-based police.
"We handed over the girls along with Fulmaya to the embassy," said Jiban Sharma, state secretary of the ABNEM. A representative of the ABNEM, RB Khadka said that the fact that the girls disappeared from the embassy is questionable. Khaganath Adhikari, charge d'affaires of the embassy, said that he has been informed of disappearance of the girls and will inquire about the matter.
