Anfa fetes Thapa, Shahi with awards
Former national footballers Krishna Thapa and Lok Bahadur Shahi were honoured with Sharad Chandra Shah Memorial Football Award here on Monday.The All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) established the award in memory of former National Sports Council member secretary Sharad Chandra Shah. The award carries Rs 5,00,000 prize money. The former players received Rs 2,50,000 each. Chief guest, the former Anfa president and president of Nepal Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Kamal Thapa and NSC member secretary Yubaraj Lama gave away the prizes.
Both Shrestha and Shahi had began their careers in 1980 and were the member of the Nepali team that won gold medal in the first South Asian Games in Kathmandu. “I am delighted to receive the award,” senior coach Thapa said. “Its a good trend to fete former players and urge our seniors to come forward and pass on their skills to the young generation in order to develop the game.”
Similarly Shahi, also the former Anfa general secretary, praised the Anfa gesture and hailed the association for always being there to help footballer. “Anfa is our home and I request all former and current players not to hesitate to come here if in any kind of trouble because it has always been there to help footballers.” said Shahi.
Anfa president Ganesh Thapa announced Rs 250,000 assistance for the treatment of YB Ghale. Ghale, who had scored the first international goal for Nepal, has been suffering from paralysed. “Anfa has decided to provide Rs 2,50,000 for the treatment of Ghale,” informed Thapa.
