CAN to hold NPL instead of Zohra
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) made official announcement on Wednesday to organise the Ncell Nepal Premier League (NPL) instead of the Zohra Sports Management.CAN said that Zohra Sports Management, the brainchild of the event, will now act as co-organisers of the tournament. A meeting chaired by first vice-president Tarani Bikram Shah came to the decision after the cricket governing body came under heavy criticism for allowing a private company to run the professional league, notably from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Even though a confirmed date for the NPL had not been fixed yet, it was announced that the league would kick off in April after the national team’s return from the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. It has now been set to being in May, when the national team returns from their ACC Premier League campaign scheduled for April 30-May 7 in Malaysia.
The CAN meeting also decided to form a governing council for NPL which will set the guidelines for the tournament. Along with the Twenty20 format, the NPL also includes the 50-over and two-day events.
The NPL comprises of six teams supported by corporate houses.
