Over 5 million devotees observe Mahakumbha fair
Over 5 million devotees have so far observed the ongoing Mahakumbha fair organised at Barahachhetra, the famous shrine in Sunsari district, when the fair completed its 19th day on Sunday.Devotees thronged the Baraha Chhetra, took a holy dip and performed pooja of the Baraha, one of the incarnations of Hindi god Vishnu.
Secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Krishna Hari Baskota, who returned to the Capital today after visiting the fair, said around 200,000 devotees observed the fair on public holiday. Around 500,000 visited the fair on the day of Mahasnan (great holy bath), Secretary Baskota said.
All necessary arrangements have been made for ensuring security to devotees and providing basis health services and drinking water to them, he said, adding 24-hour power to the fair venue has been managed. All the government bodies are extending all possible support to make the fair a success.
Main Organising Committee Chairman Balsanta Mohan Sharan said he is confident that additional 5 million people will observe the fair until May 2, the final day of the fair with high importance and great values.
