Poudel against reviving war-era cases
Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel has said the country should not be pushed towards fresh turmoil by reviving war-era cases.Ekantipur Report
Speaking to mediapersons at Damak in Jhapa district on Sunday, Poudel said that reviving war-era cases, at a time when the country is trying to erase the bitter memories of war, would only prolong the transitional period in the country.
Poudel said that though the provision of amnesty was not included in the bill on transitional justice mechanism, people have already pardoned the Maoist leaders and elected them as the country's prime ministers.
Poudel also assured that a transitional justice mechanism would be formed soon after consensus among the political parties. To maintain peace in the country, Poudel said that the state should find the facts of the war-era cases, and make arrangements so that the victims could receive compensation and the guilty of could remorse their acts.
Poudel reached Jhapa to participate in a cadre training programme after bathing in Kumbh Mela at Chatara Dham of Baraha Kshetra in Sunsari district.
