FSPN leaders plan to quit the party
Dissatisfied by the party leadership, dozens of members from the Federal Socialist Party Nepal are planning to quit the party.Senior FSPN leaders said the party could lose nearly half of its central members, as the party leadership has failed to address their concern. The disgruntled group within FSPN has dubbed party Chairman Ashok Rai an incompetent leader.
A senior party source told the Post that various factors, including party’s loss in the Constituent Assembly elections, Rai’s monopoly over party’s decision, and his decision to lead the party lawmakers in the CA, have caused discontent among the party members.
The party has five seats in the CA under the proportional representation. Although most leaders had suggested Rai to let a young face lead the party’s representatives in the CA, he chose to lead the party lawmakers by himself.
“Most leaders wanted him to take charge of the party expansion and unification work, but that could not happen as he chose to represent the party in the CA,” said Ajambar Rai Kangmang, assistant general secretary of the party.
Along with Kangmang, senior party leaders like Rakam Chemjong, Bijay Rai, Horilal Chaudhari and Rijwan Ansari have openly criticised their chairman.
According to some FSPN leaders, most of the party members have started regretting their decision to desert their old party, the CPN-UML.
