Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has extended its assistance in establishing Civil Firefighting Corps (CFC) in Patan.Amid a function on Monday, JICA’ s representative Tsutomu Shimizu handed over the equipment and facilities to Gyan Bahadur Shakya, chief of Nagbahal Society. The Japanese agency provided CFC base pump house and equipments for the activity of CFC to the local society that included firefighting pumps, 200m hoses and nozzle which are necessary for initial extinction. Jica said it expects to strengthen local communities in extinguishing fire in case of inaccessibility to fire fighters.
CFC had been established as per Patan Durbar Area Fire Service Reinforcement Plan in which Jica’s senior volunteer Nobuyoshi Furuichi had contributed in research to prevent disasters like earthquakes and fire outbreaks. CFC is a volunteer firefighting team which helps in fire extinction, rescue and other disaster defense during outbreaks and before assistance.
