Nimbus to open 200 agri-shops
Nimbus Krishi Kendra is planning to open a string of 200 retail outlets for agricultural products and equipment across the country as a one-stop solution for farmers.Nimbus said it would open its first store at Kalimati in Kathmandu within a month, and then establish stores in Narayanghat and Birgunj. According to the company, other outlets will be completed within the next two years.
Customers will be able to buy farm-related products ranging from seeds, crop protection materials, fertilizers, plant nutrients, veterinary medicines, feed supplements, feed for various commercial livestock, agricultural equipment, machinery and tools from these shops.
Nimbus said that these stores would also act as a direct linkage between producers, processors and retailers of agricultural products.
The stores will have modern warehouses where the company will rent out storage space to farmers. Nimbus also plans to provide micro financing against the products stored at the warehouses as collateral.
The company will build godowns in a few places whose capacity will be 5,000 tonnes. It said proper storage facilities would allow farmers to store their products for a longer period without losing their nutritional value.
Anand Bagaria, managing director of the company, said on Tuesday that the outlets would be a one-stop concept for all the people who are involved in agriculture production and business. “We are trying to bring a holistic approach to the agricultural sector by announcing our plan to open outlets in the country.” He added that the outlets would help farmers to increase the yield from their farms. “The country has great potential for agricultural business, but due to lack of consistent supply of goods, quality production has been a big issue,” he said. “So we have come up with this approach which will contribute to the growth of this sector.”
