Tanker operators call off strike
The agitating Paschimanchal Tanker Entrepreneurs Association (PTEA) on Friday decided to resume the supply of petroleum products after a one-week strike.Ekantipur Report
The tanker operators had halted the transportation of oil since May 2 after the authorities issued arrest warrant against 16 tanker owners who were allegedly involved in stealing petroleum products imported for Rupandehi\'s Bhalwari depot of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
The agitating tanker owners called off their strike a day after the police arrested NOC regional manager Nagendra Kurmi for his alleged involvement in stealing petroleum products.
PTEA secretary Bhupraj Aryal informed that all the tankers affiliated to the umbrall body of tanker operators will go to India to bring petroleum products.
In a press statement published in a local newspaper, Aryal said the tanker entrepreneurs decided to resume the supply following an agreement to take action against those involved in stealing fuel and make public the truth behind the recent crackdown on tanker operators.
Various places of western region including Bhairahawa and Butwal have been reeling under shortage of petroleum products due to the strike of tanker owners. The tanker operators had been facing criticism from several quarters for their strike.
Rupandehi Police on Friday issued arrest warrant against 16 tanker owners who are accused of stealing petroleum products imported by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
Earlier on Sunday, two NOC officials assigned at Bhalwari Depot in connection with a recent case of petroleum theft were arrested.
