Police under pressure to not arrest Sugar Mill proprietor
Pressures from various quarters have been exerted not to arrest Manish Agrawal, proprietor of Lumbini Sugar Mill. Agrawal is accused of duping farmers by tampering with sugarcane weight.
It is reported that, especially, the chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce (FNCCI) has exerted the pressure on police not to arrest Agrawal. Agrawal is the central committee member of the FNCCI.
However, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Bishnu Hari Gautam, of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, has said that Agrawal is at large for a long time therefore, police are unable to arrest him.
The farmers claimed that Agrawal was living in Kathmandu. It is learnt that Rupandehi District Police Office sent a letter to the Police headquarters to arrest him.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested General Manager of the mill, Babu Lal Agrawal, on Monday, for his alleged involvement in this connection.
An investigation team was formed by the Ministry of Industry to investigate this incident two months ago. And the team prepared the report about the irregularities and submitted to the government.
The report reads over Rs. 3.1 million of the farmers were cheated by the mill.
