LDT campaign to construct infastructure in Tilaurakot
The Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) has launched a campaign to construct infrastructure in Tilaurakot, an ancient Shakya capital cityManoj Poudel
As part of the drive, construction of a trail that runs from western gate of the palace of king Shudhodan, the father of Lord Buddha, to the eastern gate is under way. Chakreshwori KC construction service has been contracted to build around 800 metre long and two metre wide track in six months, with a project cost of around Rs 10.5 million. Karma Syangbo Sherpa, vice chairman of the LDT said materials like lime and wood would be used for the construction as per archeological beliefs. A structure will be constructed in four different areas in the palace premises for visitors to rest, LDT officials said.
Likewise, the LDT is set to construct a building to house an information centre on a land belonging to Kapilvastu museum at Kapilvastu-2. Temba Sherpa, manager of the LDT said efforts were ongoing to select contractors, with the project cost estimated to be Rs 26 million.
The District Development Committee (DDC) is set to construct a bus park to facilitate tourists visiting the museum. The DDC has announced the tender, a DDC official said, adding that this move aims at making Tilaurakot a tourist destination. Foundation stones of the building and the bus park will be laid after Buddha Jayanti, said LDT officials.
Meanwhile, preparations are in its final stage to plan on attracting tourists to the town of Tilaurakot, DDC officials said.
A team of archaeologists and experts, earlier this year, initiated excavation works in Tilaurakot.
Professor Dr Robin Coningham, chief archaeologist of Durham University said significant progress has been made through the excavation, stating that the report to be out next year will help present Tilaurakot as an ancient and archeological city for attracting tourists.
