Talks stressed with parties, groups with political character
The members of the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee have suggested holding talks immediately with the parties and groups with political character.Speaking during a meeting of the committiee held on Friday, majority of the members of the Committee suggested holding talks with the CPN-Maoist and other political parties and groups by determining the process and the procedures. They also stressed on the need of finding the fact over the dissolution of the erstwhile Constituent Assembly (CA) and correcting the weaknesses made in the past.
They said it was necessary to identify the parties and groups with political character and without. The committee members also pointed out on the need of putting to an end the tendency of violating and criticizing each other right after the political consensus and agreement were made.
They also suggested not moving ahead the constitution writing process without determining the main principles of the constitution, claiming that it would be difficult to achieve results if the process was taken ahead without this.
They stressed on the need of consensus among at least three major political parties on the issues of federalism and the form of governance in the new constitution.
The new constitution should include the aspirations of all political parties, as the new constitution is being drafted after a long wait of the people, he added.
Dr Baburam Bhattarai, chairman at the committee informed the meeting that the CPN-Maoist is willing to participate in constitution drafting process despite their some reservations to enter in this CA.
Dr Bhattarai had further apprised his informal meeting with CPN-Maoist chairman Mohan Baidya and his party's willingness to go ahead with the round- table conference. The next meeting of the committee is scheduled on May 19.
