PHSC to write to JC seeking more documents
The PHSC has decided to write to Judicial Council asking the constitutional body to furnish more documents to clarify the basis for appointing the nominees for SC justices.Ekantipur Report
The committee made such decision after the council members refused to show up at the PHSC to furnish clarifications regarding the recommendation of 'controversial names'.
The hearing committee is also coming up with its official position regarding the JC's refusal to appear before it and explain the nomination process.
Likewise, the committee has decided to summon individuals, who have filed complaints against the names recommended for the appointment in Supreme Court, to hold discussion.
Likewise, the PHSC has expressed reservations over the language used in the letter sent by the Judicial Council (JC) to the PHSC about its refusal to turn up for the meeting. They have termed the JC's decision to this regard as immature and coming in haste. The committee said the language was not in line with parliamentary decorum and that the committee will draw the JC's attention over the matter.
At today's meeting, committee members from the CPN-UML and the UCPN (Maoist) took exception to the JC's decision to shun the committee's call.
CPN-UML leaders Bhim Rawal, Rajendra Pandey, Rabindra Adhikari, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Astha Laxmi Shakya and leaders of UCPN (Maoist) Agni Sapkota, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, Prabhu Sah, among others, remarked that people with tainted reputation should not be appointed as the Supreme Court justices.
However, Nepali Congress lawmakers Prakash Saran Mahat, Anand Dhungana and Bal Krishna Khand among others reiterated their view that the JC's recommendations should be forwarded without further delay.
