Thapa to quit as RPP chair
Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Surya Bahadur Thapa, has announced that he will quit as party chairman coming week.Ekantipur Report
Organising a press conference at his residence in Maligaun, Kathmandu on Friday, Thapa said that he would step down from the post on June 1.
Few days ago, nine leaders of the party had jointly released a press statement denying their compliance to the responsibilities allotted by Thapa, stating that Thapa's tenure had been over according to the mandate of the Unification Convention 2070 BS.
“May 29 is RPP’s establishment day and we have organised a tea reception on June 1,” said Thapa today,” I will quit as party chairman on the very day.”
Thapa assumed the post of party chairman in May last year. Senior leader Lokendra Bahadur Chand is likely to replace Thapa as party chairman as the leaders had earlier agreed on handing over the party leadership on a rotation basis.
