Addressing the inauguration of the party’s General Convention in the Capital on Saturday, RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa asked the major political parties to respect the strength of his party in Constituent Assembly and incorporate its agendas in the new constitution.

He claimed that a majority of the people in the country are in favour of a Hindu state and it will be a “historic mistake” if this fact is underestimated.

The RPP-N is the only mainstream party that has been raising the agendas of Hindu state and reinstatement of monarchy.

“Everyone is clear that the idea of secularism and republic nation was conceived in the foreign land and so called major political parties worked on behest of such foreign forces,” Thapa said to the mass of thousands of his party cadres at Khulamanch. “I caution these parties that the constitution without Hindu state is not acceptable to the general people and they are ready to make any kind of sacrifice for it.” He also claimed that the RPP-N cadres have potential to reinstate monarchy from Nagarjuna to Narayanhiti, but they believe in rule of law not in anarchism.

Stating that the sovereignty of the country is under threat after the king was dethroned, he stressed on the need of restoring monarchy as a symbol of national unity and nationality. Thapa said his party is ready to compromise on the form of monarchy, which could be cultural, symbolic or ceremonial. “We are well aware about our status, so we are ready to compromise on the issue for the timely promulgation of the constitution,” he added.

Former prime minister and Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Surya Bahadur Thapa said it is necessary for all the political parties to join hands to draft the constitution within the scheduled timeframe.

Similarly, Nepali Congress leader and Minister for Information and Communication Minendra Rijal said promulgation of a new constitution is not possible without taking RPP-N in confidence. He said the NC does not believe in the politics of prohibition and as the largest party in the CA it will ensure that everyone will have their say in the new constitution.

Around 2,500 representatives including 300 observers participated in the convention that will conclude on Tuesday after electing new central working committee for four years term.

Through the General Convention, the party plans  to bring changes in its organisational structure and  increase the size of its central committee from existing 41 to 125 through. RPP-N also plans to change the party name.
