CA poll injured demand redress
The two youths who sustained injuries from a petrol bomb blast during the second Constituent Assembly elections in the Capital have been left in lurch after the state rolled back on its commDhwaj Singh Bista of Bhumeshwor in Baitadi and Binod Chand of Dethala in Darchula were caught in-between the violence committed by the 33 fringe parties opposing the Constituent Assembly elections last November. The duo were reportedly injured when CPN-Maoist cadres hurled a petrol bomb at the mircobus they were traveling in. The assailants targeted the vehicle for defying the banda they called on November 12.
The two had apparently just arrived from Malaysia and were on their way to a hotel from the airport. The government, at the time, had assured to provide Rs 100,000 for each of the injured. However, according to the victims, their repeated requests to the Local Peace Committee and District Administration Office for relief have fallen on deaf ears.
Meanwhile, the two had then received a month long treatment at the Grande Hospital in the Capital for their injuries. Bista had recieved burn injuries in various parts of his body and is on regular medication. He migrated to Malaysia on April with a loan of around Rs 150,000, but returned back within a month claiming not finding a suitable job.
Bista demanded the state honour its commitment to provide Rs 100,000 to victims and compensate the damage caused during the incident. "Even though they treated us the wounds are yet to heal."
Meanwhile, secretary of the local peace committee Ambika Joshi said they did not register the victims' pleas since there were no provisions for compensating those injured during elections.
