Singhaniya murder case yet to be solved
Four years after media entrepreneur Arun Singhaniya was murdered in Janakpur, police are yet to arrest the suspects.Shyam Sundar Shashi
Sources said some of the suspects have close ties with high-level police officers and are enjoying political protection, thus avoiding the arrest.
Police earlier arrested Yogendra Sahani, Anti Rain and Mukesh Chaudhary in connection with the murder. Based on their statements, police have filed cases at the district court against Ram Binod Yadav, central member of Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party, Chanardip Yadav, Dipendra Kumar Yadav, Manak Lama and Pawan Lama. Chanardip of Forum Loktantrik party and Ram Binod are still at large since the arrest of the three.
Singhaniya, chairman of Janakpur Today Communications Group, was shot dead Shiva Chowk in Janakpur on March 1, 2010. A probe committee to investigate the murder led by Senior Superintendent of Police Bijaya Bhatta is yet to make public the report.
Meanwhile, some senior police officials of the Crime Investigation Unit of the District Police Office are out of the district at present, which may have significant affects to the investigation process, concerned stakeholders said. SP Uttamraj Subedi has been on leave since long. Likewise, inspector Gobinda Puri has left for training while DSP Rabi Ghimire is on leave.
Inspector Niranjan Thapa, assigned to take charge, however, claimed that the investigation will not be affected by the absence of the senior police officials.
