Pyuthan bus accident toll reaches 18
The death toll of Monday’s bus crash at Gothibang-1 in the district has reached to 18.Giru Prasad Bhandari
Two critically injured died during treatment at a hospital in Bhairahawa. Most of the deceased were Indian pilgrims. Police said six of the deceased have been identified till Tuesday evening.
Suresh Kumar Sahu, 16, of Siddharthanagar in India and Gop Raj Gupta, 70, Saraswoti Sahani, 62, Urmila Pandey, 66, Samudra Yadav, 65, and Pinku Ojha, 24, of Tilampurthana have been identified dead in the incident.
According to Dr Phanindra Baral at the Pyuthan District Hospital, 56 others are receiving treatment in Bhairahawa while one is undergoing treatment in Pyuthan.
Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Kurumbang said the bodies of nine male and seven female passengers were sent to Bhairahawa after post-mortem. He said the bodies were sent to Bhairahawa as the victims’ relatives and the representatives of Indian Embassy in Kathmandu gathered there to receive the bodies.
The relatives of some victims gathered in the district hospital are awaiting the post-mortem reports. They vented ire over the delay of the autopsy.
The vehicle met with the accident while it was heading to Krishnanagar of Kapilvastu from Bhingri in Pyuthan. Most of the passengers were pilgrims returning from Swargadwari Temple.
