Suu Kyi visits Lumbini
Myanmar's democratic icon and Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi visited Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha, here on Sunday.Ekantipur Report
Suu Kyi, who came to Lumbini on a helicopter, spent some one-and-half-hours in Mayadevi Temple. She offered prayer on the temple premises and inspected the Ashoka pillar.
Vice-Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust Karma Sangbo Sherpa welcomed the democratic icon who was accompanied by Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala.
Sherpa said he informed her about Lumbini Master Plan and various development activities being carried out in the area. Talking briefly to the reporters, Suu Kyi said she was very happy for visiting the sacred place like Lumbini.
Suu Kyi is on a four-day visit to Nepal during which she met President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala besides delivering a keynote speech on an international conference on the “future of democratic socialism” organised by the BP Chintan Pratisthan in the Capital yesterday.
She is scheuled to leave tomorrow.
