Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the FNJ-Kantipur stated that while there should be a separate law on the contempt of court, the law should respect the spirit of Universal Declaration on Human Rights (Article 19). It maintained that the law passed by the government should comply with the minimum global standards.
FNJ-Kantipur also demanded that the government replace the current bill registered in the parliament with a new one. It further warned of resorting to protests if the government failed to do so.
“We want such law which respects and protects people’s right to freedom of expression, press freedom and upholds court’s dignity and prestige,” stated the press release issued by FNJ-Kantipur President Kamal Dev Bhattarai.
