Nepali jailed in UK for immigration scam
A Nepali man has been sentenced to four years and four months in British prison after being convicted of assisting illegal migrants to fraudulently obtain visas to work and live in the UK.Shanker Bhandari, 36, who was residing in a place called Hayes in the UK, was among a gang of Pakistani and Indian nationals who have been slapped similar jail sentences for running an immigration swindle from an office in Alperton, according to British news portal Kilburntimes.co.uk. The gang has been jailed for almost 30 years in total.
Harrow Crown Court heard the gang created fake payslips and tax returns from their headquarters in Crown House on the North Circular Road, to support applicants seeking a highly skilled Tier 1 visa. The false documents were processed via the bank accounts of multiple fake companies set up in the names of the applicants, falsely giving the impression they were financially eligible for a visa when they were in low paid jobs such as supermarket shelf stacking, the news portal reported.
Bhandari, who is originally from Dhading of Nepal, had been arrested with his Indian and Pakistani accomplice by the UK Border Agency two years ago on same charges. However, he had been subsequently released on bail.
Two Pakistanis have been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years and eight years while one Indian national has been jailed for two-and-a-half years on the same charges.
Bhandari along with two Pakistani nationals face deportation after they have served their sentences.
