Father-daughter duo at Paleti
The father-daughter duo of Prakash Gurung and Reema Hoda Gurung headlined the second edition of this year’s Paleti series on Friday.“For me, Paleti is the only stage besides my rehearsal room where I can perform well,” says Gurung, who was performing at Paleti after a hiatus of seven years.
The next number was Dherai Najik Hunu Pardaina Manchelai, and it was his daughter who took over the mike this time. Later, she also performed an unreleased song, Aankhako Jor Ghaitoma, from her new album.
“When music starts flowing in your veins, you do not need anyone to tutor you. My Father never taught me music. The environment I was provided was sufficient for me,” says Prakash Gurung. “It’s no different with my daughter.”
After Prakash performed four more of his songs and Reema performed another number from her new album, the first half of the event came to an end. The second half started with Prakash Gurung performing Binti Cha Hai, Othma Aljhiyeko Bachan Deu, which was followed by other popular songs sung by both him and his daughter.
“There were not many singers in the past. But those few singers understood the songs in their entirety, and not just the lyrics,” said Prakash Gurung, as he was making a point about the way Nepali music is deteriorating.
During breaks in the performance, he also talked about how he collaborated with many other popular artists in the past.
For the final leg of the performance, Prakash Gurung decided to go with some of his most popular hits. It was when he performed his recent number Bola Bola Pakha Haru that the audience came alive. Next up were Ma Bhani Bacheko Priya and Ma Samjhanthe, and the programme ended with the song Sunchadi Bhanda Mahango Yo Jyanlai, which was performed as a duet.
