DHo villagers stage sit-in for impartial investigation
People from Upper Dolpa have started a week long sit-in protest at Bhadrakali, demanding a high-level fact finding judicial commission to investigate into the alleged police brutality in DhoThe protesters said on Tuesday that they went on protest as the government was trying to cover up the incident by forming a probe committee comprising of government employee and security officials.
“We’ll never accept the government team comprising of officials from the home ministry to investigate into the crime committed by another official under the ministry,” said Norbu Ghale, coordinator of the Dolpo Joint Struggle Committee. “We want representatives of human rights community and local people in the team.”
On June 3, security personnel had confiscated money collected by villagers as tax from Yarchagumba pickers. When the villagers protested, the security personnel allegedly resorted to violence, leaving two villagers dead and scores of others injured.
