IDA of WB provides Rs. 6.94 billion to Nepal for rural water supply
International Development Association of World Bank has provided Rs. 6.94 billion assistance (US dollars 72 million) to Nepal for the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement ProjectOf the assistance provided by the IDA, Rs. 4.82 billion or US dollars 50 million is loan and Rs. 2.12 billion or US dollars 22 million is grant.
The amount provided for the next five years will benefit 2.4 million people in drinking water and sanitation services and to transform 400 VDCs as Open Defecation Free (ODF) VDCs.
The document to this effect was signed between World Bank head of country office, Bigyan Pradhan and Finance Ministry Joint Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini at the Ministry of Finance today.
On the occasion, Chief Pradhan said the assistance will be instrumental in helping attain the millennium development goals of Nepal.
Also the chief of the International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Joint Secretary Marasini said the assistance will help Nepal attain the international commitment to provide drinking water and sanitation by 2017 and expressed gratitude to WB for continual cooperation for the socio- economic development of Nepal.
