Tycoon Chaudhary meets Indian minister Swaraj
Indian Minister for Foreign Affairs Sushma Swaraj has held a meeting with a Nepali business tycoon Binod Chaudhary at the Indian Parliamentary house.Ekantipur Report
The Indian minister met Chaudhary ahead of her official visit to Nepal which is scheduled to begin from July 25. She will lead an Indian delegation for the third Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting to be held on July 26-27.
Minister Swaraj, during her meeting with Chaudhary, wanted to know about the expectations of the Nepali entrepreneurs and private sector for assistance from India.
"If India assists Nepal in the construction of 800 MW hydropower project, this gift would play a significant role in strengthening Nepal-India friendship,” Chaudhary told the Indian minister.
According to a press statement released by BJP headquarters on Thursday, Chaudhary stressed on the need to create job opportunities in Nepal so as to reduce the daily outflow of over 1500 youths to foreign countries in search of employment.
"Indian assistance is expected to establish the major eastern and western border points into business corridors,” said Chaudhary.
BJP leader Vijay Jolly, who was also present in the meeting that took place at New Delhi based Parliament House on Monday, said Minister Swaraj has taken the proposals put forth by Chaudhary seriously.
Swaraj was invited by Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, when he accompanied Prime Minister Koirala to New Delhi during the swearing-in of Indian PM Modi.
This will be her first official visit to Nepal as the external affairs minister. She will lead the Indian delegation in the third Nepal-India Joint Commission meeting to be held on July 26-27, the Foreign Ministry stated.
