Nepali Tara returns

Jul 22, 2014-

Nepali Tara—a popular singing reality show that had been in hiatus for eight years—is being aired again, starting this fall. This will be the third edition of the programme and is being organised by Neelbarahi Films.

During a press meet held at Mandala Theatre, Anamnagar, the organisers said that the programme had been halted because long load-shedding hours had caused viewership to plummet. But a recent statement released by the organiser read: “Now we are back with a bang.”

Music director Prakash Gurung, composer and lyricist Suresh Adhikari and adhunik singer Ram Krishna Dhakal will be the panel judges whereas singer/musicians Jems Pradhan and Rajan Ishan will be mentoring the contestants who make it to the top twenty. Both artistes will have a group of ten each under them. The winner of the second edition of the show, Santosh Lama, and the runner-up of the first edition, Dharmendra Sewan, will be the presenters for the season.

The first round of auditions will commence from September in different areas of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Dharan, Butwal and Narayangarh. The organisers say that they are expecting around 20,000 participants to audition for the singing talent-show.

The programme will be broadcast on Nepal Television and Nepal Television Plus. Along with the televised broadcast, the programme will also be on the show’s Youtube channel, to cater to a broader audience.

A song titled Surko Haath Samai, composed by Pradhan and performed by former Nepali Tara participants, was also launched during the event, along with the programme’s official social networking page.

The winner of this year’s competition will win a motorcycle, a cash prize of Rs 251,000, a three-song record and video deal, and an opportunity to do a musical tour around Australia.

Ranjit Acharya, the executive producer and director of the show, said in a press release that the show would be of a higher quality than in the past.
