The UML chairman boarded a Thai Airways plane at 1.45 pm today. He will reach Singapore via Bangkok. Oli declined to speak to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport before leaving for Singapore.
He was making preparations to visit Bangkok for treatment.
The UML leader suddenly changed his plan at the last moment after he got an appointment from a Singapore physician on Monday night, sources close to leader Oli said.
According to the UML central committee member Rajan Bhattarai, Oli will receive medical treatment at the National University Hospital in Singapore as per doctors' advice. He said Oli's itinerary had to be arranged in a hurry as the doctors at the hospital fixed Wednesday for an appointment.
It is estimated that Oli's treatment will take a week. He is going for further treatment as the swelling in his infected right hand has not abated. Bhattarai said besides this, Oli had no other health problem.
Minister for Energy Radha Gyawali, Minister for Industries Karna Bahadur Thapa, leader Keshav Badal, party central committee members Dr Bhattarai, Niru Pal, among others were present at the airport to see off Oli.
Earlier on April 30, Oli had been rushed to a Bangkok hospital after his health condition deteriorated due to meningitis infection. He received a month-long treatment at Bangkok-based Bumrungrad International Hospital and returned to Nepal on June 3. He has a ‘fungal infection’ in his right hand.
Prior to his visit to Thai Capital, leader Oli had returned from India after receiving one-and-a-half-month long treatment in Indian Capital Delhi.
The UML chieftain is accompanied by his wife Radhika Shakya and an aide Rajesh Bajracharya.
Chairman Oli has assigned vice chairman Bamdev Gautam to officiate as the party chairman during his absence.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala is returning to the Capital on Tuesday after a month-long treatment at New York-based Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in US.
PM Koirala had left for New York on June 15. Koirala will again visit New York after 3 months for follow-up treatment.
